The ecological-designed Raphael Hotel Wälderhaus in Hamburg is a proof that there is no need to compromise between high levels of comfort on the one hand and protecting the environment with a coherent ecological design on the other. The high level of sustainability is achieved through the way the building is constructed. Exterior walls are made from untreated larch wood and provide a habitat for plants and animals. Interior walls and ceilings made from untreated spruce wood create a pleasant environment in the 82 bedrooms, which feature all the latest technology and free WLAN.
In terms of electricity, the hotel is self-sufficient. The electricity is 100% from renewable energy sources with the geothermal energy for heating and photo-voltaic system on the roof. The hotel utilize highly efficient lighting technology, where 80% LED and 20% energy-saving lights.
