Vancouver, the greenest city in 2020!

Veemo™
Veemo™ will be rolling along the streets and bike lanes of Vancouver in 2017. Veemo™ are human-powered, enclosed from the weather, fully networked, and assisted by electric and solar power. It’s a car sharing program without the car.

Imagine a city without waste and pollution.

Vancouver target to derive 100% of the energy used in the city from renewable sources and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80% below 2007 levels before 2050.  In order to reach this targets, the plan will be to reduce energy use and increase the use and the supply of renewable energy. Vancouver will focus on zero waste community, renewable buildings and renewable transportation. For example, improving the existing infrastructure to use it to its fullest potential, supporting increasing the amount of rooftop solar power generation, building new renewable energy infrastructure, switching to renewable forms of energy that are already available to us, increasing building insulation requirements, encouraging green economy, improving our bike network etc.

In order to encourage more people to ride their bikes to schools, community centers, transit stations, shopping and employment areas, Vancouver is upgrading and expanding its cycling network with low-stress, high quality routes. There are several supporting measures, such as public bike sharing system and installation of bicycle parking and air pump. In Vancouver, you can even take your bike almost everywhere in the public transportation with you: on the bus, SkyTrain, SeaBus and West Coast Express, which can help you and your bike go further.

Let’s go further and greener!

Green Key Eco-Rating Program 5

With more than 1,200 hotels certified in Canada since its inception in the 1990s, the Green Key Eco-Rating Program awards hotels an environmental rating of one to five Green Keys. Green Key members are then given guidance on how to “unlock” opportunities to reduce operating costs and environmental impacts – and in turn earn more keys.

The Green Key audit looks at nine major areas of sustainable hotel operations:
• Energy conservation
• Water conservation
• Solid waste management
• Hazardous waste management
• Indoor air quality
• Community outreach
• Building infrastructure
• Land use
• Environmental management
