The world’s biggest butterfly count kicks off

Malachite Butterfly
Butterflies, as the excellent biodiversity indicators, react very quickly to the environmental change. Their declines are an early warning for other wildlife losses.

In order to reverse declining numbers of the insects, the world’s largest butterfly count takes place in the UK this summer to spot and to record 18 species of common butterflies and 2 day-flying moths from 17th July to 9th August this summer. The butterfly count was launched from 2010. 44,000 people got involved and almost 560,000 butterflies were recorded in 2014.
